Trouser bar or clip hanger: what should you choose for trousers and skirts?

Two hanger types solve the same task in different ways. The trouser bar shows a complete outfit on one hanger, the clip hanger holds trousers and skirts in daily store use. Here are the differences, the models and the prices.

Two ways to hang trousers

The two types are not variants of each other. The trouser bar is part of a shirt or coat hanger, the clip hanger is a hanger in its own right. That is why most stores choose both: trouser bar where the outfit is shown as a whole, and clip hangers for the racks that are restocked every day.

Rubber-coated crossbar under the hanger. The trousers are laid over the bar and stay in place, and the jacket hangs on the same hanger. Gives a calm, unified look and is used where styling matters more than quick turnover. Models: Carlton (shirt and coat), Crosby (coat), Carlton hotel hanger with pin.

Clip hangers
Two adjustable metal clips with rubber hold trousers and skirts at the waistband without pressure marks. They fit all widths and fabrics from light skirts to heavy jeans and are quick to take off and on when restocking. Models: Bedford, Barry, Halifax, York, Wigan and the metal models Alba, Bolzano and Cesena.

How to choose

  • Suits and sets sold together: coat hanger with trouser bar (Carlton or Crosby), so the customer sees jacket and trousers as one product.
  • Showroom, window and collection display: trouser bar. The outfit hangs ready, and nobody has to adjust clips.
  • Trousers and skirts on racks in the store: clip hanger. The customer takes the item off and on many times a day, and the clips fit all sizes.
  • Jeans and heavy fabrics: clip hanger with metal clips, e.g. York or Halifax.
  • Light skirts and straps: clip hanger with narrow clips, e.g. Bedford or Wigan.
  • Hotel rooms: Carlton hotel hanger with trouser bar and pin that stays in the wardrobe.
  • Many items in little space: metal clip hangers (Alba, Bolzano, Cesena) take up the least space on the rail.
